What we repair
Every heating and cooling system in a typical East Bay home, all brands, not only the ones we install.
- Furnace repair — gas and electric furnaces: no heat, short cycling, ignition faults, heating maintenance.
- Heat pump repair — ducted and ductless heat pumps: iced outdoor coil, defrost faults, no heat or no cooling.
- Ductless mini-split repair — error codes, water leaking from the indoor unit, communication faults between units.
- Air conditioner repair — central AC: warm air, refrigerant leaks, failed capacitors and compressors.
- Ductwork repair — collapsed or disconnected runs, leaks, rooms that get no airflow.
- Thermostats and zone controls — repaired on the same visit as the system they control.
How much does HVAC repair cost?
Quick answer: every visit starts with a $59 service call, included in the repair price if you approve the repair. Our recent furnace repairs cost between $350 and $990, and a typical one is around $690. Heating maintenance starts at $150.
We always diagnose first, and you get the final price in writing before any work starts. Prices can change, so your technician will confirm the exact cost.

Common problems and what usually causes them
If you smell gas, shut off the supply at the valve and call from outside the house.
| Problem | Likely cause | System |
|---|---|---|
| Furnace starts, then shuts off after a few minutes | Dirty flame sensor, clogged filter or a tripped limit switch | Furnace |
| No heat, controls dead | Failed control board or control transformer | Furnace |
| Outdoor unit stays iced over in winter | Failed defrost board or sensor, low refrigerant | Heat pump |
| Water dripping from the wall unit | Clogged condensate drain or failed drain pump | Mini-split |
| AC runs but blows warm air | Low refrigerant, dirty condenser coil or a failed capacitor | Air conditioner |
| Breaker trips when the outdoor unit starts | Hard-starting compressor or a failed contactor | AC / heat pump |
| No air from the vents in one room | Disconnected or collapsed duct, stuck zone damper | Ductwork |
Repair or replace?
Most systems under 12 years old are worth fixing, and we’ll tell you when one isn’t. If replacement makes more sense, see furnace installation, heat pump installation or AC installation.
Repair makes sense when
- The system is under 12 years old and has been reliable
- The repair costs less than a third of a new system
- It’s a single failed part: capacitor, contactor, flame sensor, igniter, control board
- The system runs on R-410A and holds pressure after a leak test
Replacement pays off when
- The system is 15–20+ years old and needs work every season
- It still runs on R-22, which is no longer produced, so every recharge costs more
- The furnace heat exchanger is cracked: that is never a repair
- You’ve paid for two or more repairs in one season

“Whatever the call was about, I check the whole system before I quote: refrigerant pressures, airflow, amp draw on the motors. A blower pulling high amps will take out the next part you pay for, so I’d rather find it now”

HVAC repair questions
Do you offer same-day HVAC repair?
Most days, yes. We work 7am–7pm and same-day slots are usually available across Alameda, Contra Costa and Marin counties. The first cold week of winter and the first heat wave of summer fill up fast, so call early.
How much does HVAC repair cost?
Every visit starts with a $59 service call, included in the repair price if you approve the repair. The rest depends on which part failed: a capacitor or a flame sensor is a small job, a control board or a compressor is not. You get the final price in writing before any work starts.
What does the diagnostic include?
A check of the whole system, not just the part you called about: refrigerant pressures, airflow, amp draw on the motors and compressor, electrical connections and safety controls. That’s how we find the part that actually failed instead of the one that failed second.
Which brands do you repair?
All of them. We install mainly Daikin and Goodman, but we repair every brand — Carrier, Bryant, Lennox, Trane, Rheem, American Standard and older units. If a part is discontinued, we tell you and lay out the options.
Is a repair on an old system covered by warranty?
Our warranty covers the parts we install and the work we do. On an older system we can’t warranty the original components, such as the compressor, blower motor or heat exchanger, because they can fail on their own at any time.
Do you repair boilers or radiator heating?
No. Boilers, radiators and air-to-water heat pumps involve plumbing work outside our C-20 license, so you’ll need a licensed plumbing contractor. We can still add a ductless mini-split alongside an existing radiator system.
Heating or cooling not working?
Same-day diagnostics, final price before we start. Not sure whether to fix or replace? We’ll tell you at the visit.
